9 Best Fruits for Constipation

Constipation is a common problem which can be experienced by anyone regardless of age and gender.

The problem of Constipation may vary from person to person depending upon its severity and intensity.

Constipation is often considered as having less than three bowel movements per week and is caused by slow movement of food in the digestive system. Many reasons might cause this problem including water loss, improper diet, medications, sickness, diseases and mental disorders.

Laxatives help to soften the stool and help them pass easily while there are some fruits that help in relieving the problem of Constipation.

Here are some nutritious fruits that act as the best remedies for constipation to improve the frequency of bowel movements.

 Prunes

Prunes are dried plums that are widely used as a natural remedy for increasing bowel movements as they are rich in fiber having around 2 grams of fiber per 1-ounce (28-gram serving).

Prunes have insoluble fiber like cellulose which increases the amount of water in the stool and adds bulk to it meanwhile soluble fibers in prunes produce short-chain fatty acids and increases the weight of the stool.

Prunes also have Sorbitol and phenolic compounds which has a natural laxative effect in the stomach. You can eat prunes on their own or add them in salads, cereals, oatmeal and smoothie for beneficial effects.

There is a common and wise English proverb of Welsh origin which says “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”.

Apple has many health benefits including its effectiveness against constipation as Apples are loaded with Pectin fiber and pectin has an amphoteric effect. It is found that pectin accelerates the movement of stool and is a  natural cure for Constipation.

Contradicting in nature pectin provides relief in both the conditions such as Diarrhoea and Constipation.

So Apples may are a good source of fiber content for our body as they are helpful in relieving Constipation along with other health benefits.

Pears have a high amount of fiber and are particularly high in fructose and sorbitol when compared to other fruits.

Fructose is poorly absorbed in few people and ends up in which results in stimulated and improved bowel movement.

Pears also contains Sorbitol, the sugar alcohol which is not absorbed by the colon and effectively works as a natural laxative by adding water and bulk to the stool. Eat pears or add them in the salad to relieve Constipation.
