How to soften your stools with Natural Methods

Constipation is a common problem in which you may have fewer bowel movements a week. Stools become dry and it is difficult to pass them out. There is a feeling that of not passing out the entire stool.

So, if your stools are hard and it is painful to pass them out, then you are having constipation. According to studies, 16 out of 100 adults show the symptoms of constipation. Certain factors are a cause of constipation like: –

Natural ways to Soften the Stools :

Fiber :

Increasing your fiber intake can soften the stools. Fiber is a good natural laxative and can increase stool frequency in patients. Fibers are of two types: – soluble and insoluble. Both of these fibers are good for healthy bowel movement.


Some of the good sources of soluble fibers are apples, carrots, oranges, oatmeal, and barley.

Good sources of insoluble fibers are nuts, seeds, beans, legumes and dark leafy vegetables like spinach.


Water :

Water plays an important role in the digestive system. Drinking less water can be a reason behind hard stools. The hardness of stools is due to low intake of fluids in your diet.


So, when you have hard stools, drink plenty of water. While taking high fiber diet you must drink the proper amount of water. You can drink healthy drinks like water, coconut water, lemon water and homemade fruit or vegetable juice. Try to avoid unhealthy drinks like one with caffeine, they can cause dehydration.


Mineral Oil :

Mineral oil is an oil laxative and can be an effective natural way to soften the stools. Its oral consumption can promote smooth bowel movement. This helps the stool to pass out with ease without any problem.


You can get mineral oil at most medical stores. You can take this mineral by combining it with a liquid like milk, juice or water. Before taking mineral oil, consult your doctor.


Prunes :

Another name for prunes is dry plums. Prunes are rich in soluble and insoluble fiber which increases the bulk and water content of the stools. This is helpful for smooth bowel movements.


You can eat 1-2 fresh plums or 3-4 prunes on regular basis. The other option is to blend 2-3 prunes into some warm almond milk and drink before sleeping. Or you can chop 3-4 prunes and add them to one cup yogurt and eat it on regular basis.


Fennel Seeds :

Saunf seeds are helpful in softening the stools and can prevent constipation. They cause smooth movement of digestive muscles resulting in healthy digestion.


Dry and roast one cup of fennel seeds and grind them. Sieve the mixture and store it in a jar. Take half tsp. of this powder with warm water on regular basis. The other option is you can drink fennel tea.


Epsom Salt  :

Epsom salt is rich in magnesium and can help you deal with difficult and painful constipation.


In a cup of water dissolve 1-2 tsp. Epsom salt and sip it. To change its taste you can add lemon. You can drink it few times a week. Don’t take it for a long time. The other option is Epsom salt bath. Add Epsom salt to the bathtub of warm water and soak in it for 20 minutes. It can help your skin to absorb magnesium.


Castor Oil :

Castor oil can help you in case of constipation. Castor oil is safe and you can take it in severe cases of constipation. This oil can help to stimulate intestines and lubricate bowels thus making it easy to pass out stools.


Swallow 1-2 Tsp. castor oil empty stomach for a healthy stomach. To improve the taste you can take it with fruit juice like orange juice. But don’t use castor oil in an excess amount.


Exercise :

Exercise can help to smooth the digestion process. As you move, your body moves the stool in the gut which in turn lowers the chances of constipation. Exercising can make the food move fast through the large intestine and improves bowel movement.


Aim to walk for 10-30 minutes in routine to keep your stomach healthy. Doing yoga or work out on regular basis can be helpful.
